The relocation of the Car Rental facilities into a more user friendly zone is one of the more basic requirements of the transport proposals at the Cape Town International Airport. The design framework of the Cape Town International Airport calls for the consolidation of all the car rental facilities from various existing areas into one, centrally located facility.

The area that has been allocated for the new Car Rental facility is directly opposite the main entrance/ exit of the 2010 Terminal Building and the Public Transport Plaza. The construction of the new Tour Bus and Public Transport Plaza in front of the new terminal building will have two subways from the Transport Plaza under the Central Boulevard across to the proposed New Car Rental Facility.
