The building will operate as a day clinic, incorporating consulting rooms, treatment and dressing, Tuberculosis and daily supervised treatment unit (DST) and a teenage counselling unit as principal clinical accommmodation. The clinic is considered by the client as relatively small in relation to operational requirements, but includes a pharmacy for dispencing medicine to patients and as part of the brief, provision was made for future expansion within the design.

The architects were required to select and motivate the appropriate location for the clinic within the property made available by the city of cape Town to produce a design corresponding to clinical requirements of the brief and articulate a building response that effectively deals with its immediate natutral and man-made environments, respectively harsh and unsafe.
